Scope and ContentModel of the winning scheme by Thomas J. Ryan in the architectural competition to design the New Church of the Immaculate Virgin Mary of the Miraculous Medal, [Bird Avenue], Clonskeagh, Dublin.
The church building is fully articulated, with human figures providing a sense of scale and trees providing site context. The spire, surmounted by a tall crucifix, is detached. Aside from the structure of the spire, the model corresponds to the drawings for the scheme published in Irish Architect and Contractor (Vol. 5, No. 4, October 1954, p. 20).
The competition results were ignored by Archbishop John Charles McQuaid who picked an alternative, unpremiated, entry to be built instead.
