Scope and ContentCollection of architectural drawings compiled by the Hon Desmond Guinness and acquired by the Irish Architectural Archive in 1996 with the assistance of the Bank of Ireland and the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands.
The drawing in the collection were assembled by the Hon. Desmond Guinness and the late Mariga Guinness in the 1960s. The majority are from four distinct sources. The first of these was the Estate Office of the Duke of Leinster, situated in Lower Dominick Street, Dublin, until 1958. Drawings acquired from this source include those for Leinster house (96/68.1/1/1 - 1/5/4) and for Carton, Co. Kildare.
The second source was Headfort, Co. Meath, seat of the Marquis of Headfort. This part of the collection includes designs for Headfort by Richard Castle and drawings by John Aheron, George Semple and Thomas Cooley. A third group, the Doneraile collection of drawings for 45 Kildare Street, were acquired at public auction as were the final set, the Henry Mullins and MacMahon material, including works by James Bell, Owen Fay and David Henry.
